We kicked off our camping season this year in Wilton, Wisconsin. It is on a State Bike Trail that used to be railroad tracks. There are several "tunnels" that you can go through, and we were excited to see these!
We set off on the bike trail to reach Tunnel #4 on the map
We actually only made it to the end of this road before the 2 littlest kids were getting tired, and the 4 big kids were getting irritated having to wait. We decided to double back, and hook up the bike trailers! Then we headed back out in search of the historic tunnel.
We made it, and boy was it worth the ride! The kids (and adults) were impressed.
See that tiny white speck? That's the other end, and we walked all the way through!
I had NO idea the tunnel was so long. It was awesome, but I wish we had brought flashlights!! I was trying to be brave for my kids. We were reduced to shuffle stepping. An added obstacle was there were water culverts on both sides of the tunnel, so you had to walk straight down the middle. No easy task in the pitch dark. Everyone buddied up and held hands, and we made it through. It was way easier on the way back through, since our eyes were adjusted by then. It was really something to experience.
