Camp Holiday
We camped at Camp Holiday in Boulder Junction, WI (about 3 1/2 hours north of home). Our neighbor was gone to Texas, and we were watching his kids for the week, so we brought them camping with us! It was a cold weekend to start with. We stayed 4 days, and it warmed up a lot each day. We went from jackets to swimsuits in two days!
There was a yummy ice cream shop that we stopped at two, or was it three, times. We played Bingo on Saturday night, and also worked on the 1000 piece puzzle that was almost done. We played at the play ground right across from our campsite, swam in the lake, and rode bikes.
We also took a day trip to Minocqua. We took the kids Mini-Golfing, and we pet the horses at the riding stable. We went down town to the Fudge Shop and let the kids make their own bags of salt water taffy.
It was a fun camp trip, and the only "snag" was a royal one at the end. We packed up Sunday morning and hit the road around 11am. We should have been home by 2:30pm...we were not. Since we had 5 kids and 3 adults, John and Henry rode with my Dad in his truck, and the 3 girls rode with us in Pat's truck. Dad blew a tire on the camper 20 minutes into the ride home. 45 minute delay, and we were back on the road. 20 minutes later he blew ANOTHER one! Now we had trouble. We took the 2 blow tires and left Dad and the boys stranded on the roadside (there were some tears from Mama here-I really didn't want to be separated from the boys). We drove a half hour to the nearest Walmart to fix the tires. It took 40 minutes in the shop, and in that time the girls and I walked to Subway to get sandwiches, chips, drinks, and even cookies for everyone. Another half hour back to meet my Dad, and Pat got the tire changed, again. We made it maybe 15 minutes and a THIRD tire blew on the camper!! Thankfully Pat had fixed both of the first 2 tires, so we had one left. Dad was down to 1 spare, 2 new, and 1 old tires. I told Pat if the 4th went, I was going to throw the kids in the camper and drive home myself. It was getting ridiculous. Miraculously the 4th tire held, and we made it home in SEVEN hours. The kids were really great. They played DS, napped, ate taffy. My Dad was so apologetic, but it wasn't anything he did on purpose. The tires that came with the camper were apparently old and a little weak for his camper. It gave us a good story for the campfire. :)
Here are some pictures from our trip
